About Us

Design Legacy is a wholesale, artisan-made creator of goods for the home. To use a more timely term, “maker” of home furnishings, textiles, and artwork. We began almost 30 years ago under Kelly’s tutelage. Our myriad designs include upholstered goods, textiles, wall art, wallcoverings, and murals. All created by a small team here in Texas, the original artwork being at Kelly’s own hand. The inspiration for all of these designs leads back to Kelly's love of nature, art, and design. The imagery and patterns are all exclusive, covering a plethora of genres. Our vintage patterns and creations are a result of Kelly's lifelong collection of many thousands of paper and print pieces, many dating back as far as the 1700s. Others are a result of his own artistic endeavors. A lifetime of painting has lead to a booming career as an artist.  His work resides in a veritable who’s who of celebrities and private collections.

Design Legacy was founded by Owner and Interior Designer Kelly O'Neal. Kelly earned his BFA in art and design at The University of North Texas.  After a stint in the advertising world followed by a jog into the women’s ready-to-wear industry, he opened his famed home furnishings store in Dallas Texas. That store, “Legacy Trading Company” lead to his explosive Interior Design career.  Kelly has worked with numerous sports figures and celebrities in his varied, multi-talented career. His work has been featured in many national publications and is a constant industry favorite.  While he closed his Dallas based retail store in 2007 to focus on the other ventures, he continued his life creating that which inspires so many others.

Famed interior designers, Denise McGaha and Michelle Nussbaumer, both of Dallas and long term friends of Kelly, have ongoing licensed textile collaborated collections which showcases their distinct talents. The McGaha collection is always a current nod to her own Texas past with a healthy historic inference.   The Nussbaumer collection is a constantly morphing of her now-infamous “Wanderlust”, heavily influenced by her travel bug and an insatiable creative vent.

Kelly has gone full circle and in 2018 opened K.ONEAL, a home furnishings and decor store in the railyard district of Santa Fe, New Mexico.  The store showcases many of his colorful creations and strongly represents the Design Legacy brand which has in its almost 30 years become an industry staple.
